ANDRIANOS continues to lead the way in building energy efficiency with a new project in the center of Kalamata – the ASKLIBIOU CUBE. This modern building, which hosts luxury suites, has been equipped with innovative and efficient systems that ensure excellent thermal comfort and impressive energy performance with zero energy consumption.

The tourist accommodation Asklipiou Cube features a modern and elegant architectural design by A&K Architects.
The newly installed systems for thermal comfort and energy savings fully cover the needs for heating, cooling, hot water, and ventilation – exclusively using renewable energy sources. As a result, the building qualifies as an A+ category Zero Energy Building (ZEB).
This achievement further strengthens ANDRIANOS’ commitment to creating buildings with a minimal environmental footprint.
Cooling & Heating with CARRIER Heat Pumps and OLYMPIA SPLENDID Fan Coils
As in all its projects, ANDRIANOS chose heat pump technology for ASKLIBIOU CUBE to ensure economical and efficient heating and cooling. The CARRIER 30AWH heat pumps were installed on the building’s rooftop, offering quiet operation and high performance. Thanks to their high efficiency ratings (COP & EER), for every 1 kW of electrical energy consumed, they produce at least 4 kW of thermal energy (for either cooling or heating).
To distribute the thermal energy, OLYMPIA SPLENDID Bi2 Smart S1 SM floor fan coil units were used, which blend harmoniously with the building’s architectural design.

Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery by BLAUBERG
One of the most important factors in achieving optimal thermal comfort was ensuring high indoor air quality through a modern ventilation system—without compromising the aesthetic design of the space with additional ductwork.
Non- Central (Autonomous) Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) units offered the perfect solution, and were therefore chosen to fully meet the building’s ventilation and air exchange needs. A total of 12 Blauberg air-to-air heat recovery units were installed, which reduce ventilation-related energy losses by up to 93%. At the same time, they create a healthy indoor environment, free of pollutants and microbes, without releasing heat (energy) to the outside environment.

Production of hot water from ANDRIANOS Solar Water Heaters
Two ANDRIANOS 200/272 solar water heaters were installed to cover the needs for hot water from the sun. With the No1 collector level in Greece, (hcol = 67%) according to EN12975, with an enamel-glass closed-circuit boiler and an aluminium collector frame with special paint coating, this solar water heater provides high resistance to extreme temperatures and ensures Hot Water in winter, even on days with reduced sunshine.
Building Control with SALUS Smart Home System
To meet the need for remote monitoring and control, a modern Smart Home system by SALUS was installed. Through this intelligent system, the building’s heating and cooling system (including control of heat pumps and fan coils) is fully managed, along with the indoor and outdoor lighting. In addition, the temperature of the domestic hot water is continuously monitored, and electric heating elements are automatically activated when solar energy is insufficient. Smart sensors have also been installed to detect water leaks and send timely alerts automatically.

The Smart Home system offers numerous advantages, with the most important being:
- Precise temperature control in each room individually, tailored to the users’ needs. This is made possible by SALUS Smart Thermostats, which use advanced algorithms to regulate temperature fluctuations with high accuracy.
- Energy savings of at least 25%, thanks to improved heat pump management. Beyond the default heat pump controller, the system allows for activation and deactivation of the heat pump based on the actual demand in each room. For example, when all rooms reach the desired temperature, the smart thermostats automatically send a signal to the Smart Relay to turn off the heat pump.
- Remote control capability, eliminating the need to physically enter the rooms to adjust temperature settings. All functions can be controlled from any location—even from abroad—via smartphone, tablet, or computer.
- Scalability and future expansion, with the option to integrate additional smart controls such as shutters, awnings, smoke detectors, and more.
Zero Energy Building with a Photovoltaic System
The equipment choices and system configurations made by ANDRIANOS engineers focused on maximizing energy efficiency and minimizing electricity consumption. In addition to the selection and fine-tuning of high-performance systems and automation features, the integration of appropriate thermal insulation and energy-efficient windows (building envelope) significantly reduced the building’s overall energy demands.
Following the successful installation of the heating, cooling, and ventilation systems, the next step toward classifying ASKLIPIOU CUBE as a fully Zero Energy Building is the integration of a photovoltaic (PV) system. This self-consumption solar energy system covers the electricity needs of the heat pumps, electrical appliances, and lighting, ensuring energy independence and sustainability.
